Sweet Sofie

Some of you may know already that my 3 year old cousin started having really serious fevers (ranging from 104.3 to 105.) a few weeks ago after having a slight runny nose. Some debilitating pain in the leg which then moved up in the pubic bone region to such a severity her body would stiffen up and she could not walk. A week ago we found out it looks to be Rheumatory arthritis. We figured ok...no cure but there is medication. She was still having the fevers and 2 days ago she went to visit the specialized doctor for the arthritis and was diagnosed with cancer.

She was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and will have a catheter inserted near her heart on Monday to start chemo therapy treatments. Today she was given a dose of oral chemo and it has made her feel really good today...we do know this is the calm before the storm. They have said to expect her to feel horrible for at least the next 8 months.

My family is more than a little shaken up about this. She lives in Missouri so it is near impossible for me to be with them right now...but I was hoping you all would help me out...I want to send a box to her with cards and what ever else in it...cards of encouragement especially made from the kids would be fantastic. If you would like to write a card or note out for my aunt & uncle that is appreciated too. Something so that when she opens it she will be wowed! Plus it will bring a smile to my Aunt Laura and Uncle Ralf's faces. She is full time in the hospital now for at least the next month and so far she is not in isolation. I plan on sending 1 box on Friday the 4th and want to send at least 1 box a week or every other.

She had a spinal done last night and we are still waiting the results on the biopsy. We are praying there are no cancerous cells in there...if there are that means we will be looking for a bone marrow donor.
